April 20/21 2019 - Fed Cup World Group Playoffs - Czech Republic 4 Canada 0

April 20/21, 2019
Czech Republic 4 Canada 0 (in Prostějov, Czech Republic)

Prostějov ended up hosting a Fed Cup World Group Playoffs tie, because there were not many other options in the Czech Republic.  Other venues were previously booked, or were hosting hockey playoffs.  For me, this was fantastic news, especially as a Canadian living in Prostějov.  Tickets were apparently sold out in a few hours, since the stadium only has a capacity of around 1,000.  However, it seems a lot of tickets were 'comp' tickets given away to sponsors, and some decided to not even showing up.  This meant that people who really wanted to go, couldn't go because technically there were no tickets available.

A group of around 10 people came from Canada, and they appeared to have been connected with Tennis Canada.  The Canadian team was missing Bianca Andreescu and a few other first choice players.  The Czechs were for the most part did not have their top talent either, but they have a much deeper player pool to choose from.  The Canadians who played tried their best, but were always a step or two behind.
