A rare chance to see a night game in Prostějov was too much to pass up, even if it was just another in a long line of friendly matches.  It reminded me of my two years living in Leicester watching football under the lights.

FK SAN-JV Šumperk - Tryšův Stadion

Šumperk is a city of around 30,000 located at the foot of the Jeseníky mountains.  The local football club was founded in 1945.  According to the official Šumperk football website, before World War II, the local German population had a majority and did not allow the Czechs to create their own football club.  This was not the case in the surrounding villages where Czechs had the majority and clubs were formed.  They currently play in the 5th level of football in the Czech Republic.  Last season, they were relegated from the 4th level, and it was only a few years ago that they were almost promoted to the 3rd level.

The stadium is only about a 10 minute walk from the main train station.  It has a large track around it, and seating for a few hundred people.

February 28, 2015 - Šumperk 6 Prostějov 2

February 28, 2015
1 liga (2nd div) playouts
Šumperk 6 Prostějov 2
Attendance - 540

Yesterday was my first Prostějov away game in three years.  In the past I have watched Prostějov in Uničov, Šternberk, Olomouc, Orlová, Přerov, Hodonin, and Valašské Meziříčí.  The game yesterday meant nothing, as both sides were already assured of not being relegated.  The other game in the group had already been cancelled.  Despite this, around 35 Prostějov supporters showed up and they cheered throughout the match.

The amount of police seemed like overkill.  They met the supporters at the stadium on foot and in police cars.  I suppose this is normal for Prostějov supporters as I remember the same in most away games, but most of the time nothing happens.  Prostějov fans were frog marched to the stadium, searched, and followed back to the train station at the game.  Everyone seemed to be in a good mood, and nothing happened.  Now, they just have to wait 6 months for the next regular season game.
