Last year I started another blog where I intended to post news about football in the Moravia and Silesia region. I got off to a slow start, but I hope to keep it more up to date in the future. I will not be posting results, but only news regarding clubs in the area.

The purpose of this post, is to promote the football clubs based in the city of Olomouc. I'll try to provide a little historical background on the clubs and where to find the respective stadiums. With regards to the directions to the stadiums, it'll only be for informational purposes. Please double check the locations before going to a game. I'll do my best to be accurate, but mistakes are possible. Over the next little while, I will feature one club.
FK Nové Sady
Olomoucký Kraj 1. A třída skupina B (6th level)
Map to stadium (The best way to get to the stadium is taking a Olomouc city bus, number 14 or 16. From the bus stop it is just a short walk. You can also take a train to the Olomouc-Nové Sady stop, but this isn't really that pratical.)
Nové Sady is a part of Olomouc with a population of around 15,000. The football club was founded in 1922, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of information at hand. If anyone has some historical information, feel free to send me an e-mail - jpott78 (@) centrum.cz. It can be in Czech, as I will just translate it.
A few years back Nové Sady actually played in the 4th division (Divize E), but since then they have fallen on tough times, and look all but certain for relegation to the 7th level after the 2009/10 season.

Olomoucký Kraj - Okresní Přebor (8th level)
Map to stadium (The stadium can be reached by taking Olomouc city bus #20. From there you just need to walk down Horecka street for about 150 meters). The ground will be on the right.)
Chomoutov is a small village of 1,000 people located around 10km north of the Olomouc city centre. The club currently plays in the 8th level, where they have been for the last 5 season. In the 2004/05 season, they were promoted from the 9th level of football. I don't have a lot of information on the club, but I hope to get to the ground sometime in the near future.

June 6th, 2010 - Olomoucký kraj - Prostějov - IV třída skupina B - Sokol Ivaň 2 FC Morávia Doloplazy 2
June 6th, 2010 - Olomoucký kraj - Prostějov - Skupina B (10th level)
Sokol Ivaň 2 FC Morávia Doloplazy 2
Attendance - 30
Admission - Free ?
Distance travelled - 30km
Ivaň is a small village of around 500 located roughly between Prostějov and Přerov or Tovačov, if like. Getting to the village by public transportation is impossible on the weekends, as no buses go to the village. So, you either have to go to car, or take a bus to a near by village. In my case, I took a bus to Klopotovice and walked the last 2km to Ivaň. Klopotovice is a small village of 300 people which I have been to a number of times, as it has a decent bus service, and is located between a number of villages with football clubs.
The pitch at Ivaň was slightly unusual as it looked like it was built into the side of a hill. On one side you can see a small hill rising up from the pitch. Facilities were basic, very basic. They had portable toliets, and the main building looked rather run down. There was a small shed where beer was sold, and I assume other drinks. With all this being said, it was not too bad for a club at the bottom of the Czech football pyramid. Most people stood during the game, but there were a few benches scattered around.
This was the first weekend of warm weather since last year, and it seemed the players had problems dealing with it. The pace of the game was quite slow. Doloplazy needed the three points as they were fighting for promotion to the league above. However, they did not seem to play with any sense of emergency. Ivaň took the game to them a number of times, and they were unlikely not to come away with the three points in the end.

May 31st - Olomoucký kraj - Prostějov IV třída skupina A (10th level)
FC Ptení P Haná Prostějov "B" P
Distance travelled - 50km
Ptení is a small village of around 1100 people. To get to the village, I took the train to the Ptení station, which is about a 2km walk from the village.
This was to be my second game of the day, but when I arrived at the ground, I found out that the game had just been cancelled because of a water logged pitch.

May 30th, 2010 - Olomoucký kraj - 1. B třída Skupina A (7th level)
Býškovice/Horní Újezd 3 Haná Prostějov 2
Distance travelled: 120km
Beer: 20kc for a pint
I left Prostějov early on Sunday morning, as Býškovice is one of the furthest away games for Haná and their home games kickoff at 10:15. Býškovice is a small village of around 390 people located a few kilometers from Hranice na Moravě. Getting to the village for a Sunday morning kickoff can be problematic by public transport, but it is certainly possible. However, the best way to get there is by car. The club joined with a near-by village called Horní Újezd, but I am not exactly sure when this happened.
This was a crucial match, as the hosts were sitting in 2nd place at the time, and the visitors in 3rd. The match started off slow enough, but it picked up as play went on. Both clubs seemed to be hesitant with their play. However, the referee started to make some interesting calls, which were very one sided towards the home team. This lead to a Haná player picking up a red card, after a second yellow in the first half. At the time, Haná was down 2-0, and things were not looking good. They battled back, to bring the game level at two, but the hosts scored on nearly the last play of the game to take a valuable three points.
I found it quite odd that the referee did not play any injury time at the end of the first or second half, when it was clearly called for. At the end of the match, one supporter of Býškovice said something with regards to the referee. I will not go into any further details, as it cannot be proven. Lets just say, that there were other teams in the league who had great interest in this game.
Luckily, Horní Mostěnice, the first place club, lost 3-0 over the weekend. This teams that they sit on 46pts, Býškovice has 44pts, with Haná at 43pts. Prostějov has one game in hand on these two clubs.
